What Kind of Hungry Are You
by Amanda Leendeertse
Historically, the body’s physiological hunger response has defined what it means to be hungry. In today’s modern world where food is abundant, food choices are often guided by both senses (such as smell) and emotions, not just a growling stomach. The foods eaten not only give our body the nourishment it requires to be healthy, but also trigger the pleasure center of the brain.
If you are trying to live a healthier lifestyle, it is important to ask – what kind of hungry am I? Are you hungry because you’ve smelled the aroma of freshly baked cookies? Are you reaching for a chocolate bar out of physical hunger, or is it because you had a bad day at the office? By increasing the awareness in the choices we make on a daily basis, steps can be made towards making healthier choices in a world of tempting treats.
